A Day of Culture and Community
Colour and music echoed from every corner of our school in early July, as the community united to celebrate our annual Culture Day – one of the most significant and popular events in our school calendar.Students – many of whom had swapped their usual school attire for vibrant outfits reflecting their respective cultures – took part in a variety of activities and workshops. These not only deepened their appreciation of different cultures, but also supported the development of key skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and creativity.
Among other highlights, students enjoyed a classic British garden party – complete with bingo, giant games and a silent disco – as well as embroidery and archery, the latter led by residential experts in Year 9.
Elsewhere, a Garba folk dance workshop got everyone moving, as did a bhangra-fit workout. Many students also enjoyed learning some British Sign Language and writing postcards to send to local Members of Parliament.
The centrepiece of this fantastic, collaborative day, though, was our first whole-school catwalk. Students from Year 7 to Year 9, beaming with pride and confidence, sauntered down the runway and, amidst a chorus of cheers and support from their peers and school staff, proudly showcased their extravagant outfits.
The success of the day is a testament to the collaboration of our brilliant school community – from our parents and carers, who helped students with their outfits, to our staff, who designed engaging resources and activities, and of course, our students, who embraced the day with energy and enthusiasm.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
