Sir Jonathan North Awarded Green Flag with Distinction

We are proud to have been awarded a Green Flag with Distinction, recognising our commitment to environmental sustainability and the outstanding work of students throughout the year.

The award celebrates a wide range of initiatives that have helped students develop a greater understanding of environmental issues while making a positive impact on the school and wider community.

One of the highlights was our involvement in the Good Life Schools programme. Students explored the environmental impact of the fashion and beauty industry through projects with De Montfort University, LUSH and a local sewing business. Their work included creating animations, designing sustainable products and producing upcycled clothing, helping to promote more environmentally conscious choices.

Students also made a significant contribution through the Energy Sparks programme. By carrying out energy checks, analysing data and working alongside staff, they helped raise awareness of energy conservation across the school. Their efforts included designing reminder posters and developing practical solutions to encourage more sustainable habits.

Elsewhere, environmental themes were explored through litter-picking activities, curriculum projects and wider discussions around global citizenship. Students investigated issues including climate change, food poverty, homelessness and period poverty, helping them understand the links between local action and global challenges.

Assessors also praised our success in engaging pupils, staff and the wider community through assemblies, newsletters and social media updates.

This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our students and staff, particularly members of the Eco Club, whose efforts have helped create a culture of environmental responsibility across the school.
