STUDENT WINS NATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION

Congratulations to Year 9 student Martha, who recently won a national poetry competition hosted by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

Martha's poem - 'Gone' - was named joint winner of the organisation's 'Youth Competition' and is a heartfelt expression of human responsibility towards the planet and reminded readers of the importance of taking appropriate action when it comes to natural conservation.

"This poem succinctly places you in a domestic setting then expands its viewpoint rapidly to have the reader look into the implications of our day to day lives on the planet,” noted Rhys Howell, one of the competition’s judges.

“The final line in breaking the scansion, really hits hard and gets the message across."

As a prize, Martha received a voucher and a goody-bag.
