Students dive into Sustainability workshop with Lush

This week, a group of 20 students from Year 7 to Year 11 took part in a sustainability workshop with Lush, one of the country’s most popular cosmetics companies.

The interactive, hands-on session saw students showcase their creativity by designing their own colourful bath bars and fresh face masks using organic, planet-friendly ingredients.

Alongside the practical activities, Lush shared a collection of really important messages. Students were encouraged to think about the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic value, and the idea that happiness is not something you can buy. It led to some thoughtful conversations about wellbeing, what matters to us and the choices we make day to day.

Students were also surprised to hear how far Lush has gone with its environmental work. We learned that the company uses 100% recycled bottles and has not created any new plastic since 2017.

The session left students buzzing with ideas, both about making more eco-friendly choices and about taking positive steps to support their own wellbeing.

The workshop took place as part of our involvement with Good Life Schools, a student-led programme for 11 to 18 year olds. The programme helps strengthen links between schools and their local communities and supports a low-consumption, low carbon culture. It also promotes a whole-school approach to wellbeing and sustainability, while recognising the pressures of modern consumer society.

A fun, fizzy workshop with a message that resonated with all.
