Students inspired by England’s Cricket stars

As part of the Lionheart Educational Trust’s exclusive partnership with Leicestershire County Cricket Club, we were thrilled to recently welcome two senior England cricket stars to Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College  

Charlie Dean and Alice Davidson-Richardson, members of the England Women’s team, took time out of their busy schedule to come and coach 14 very lucky Year 9 students in the Sports Hall.  

The students were put through their paces, taking part in various warm-up activities as well as practising their throwing and catching skills.  

The session ended with a mini match, where the girls were able to demonstrate the skills they learned and each took a turn at batting, bowling and fielding.  

The following day, our students – alongside students from other schools in the Trust – were given free tickets to watch England take on Sri Lanka Women in their final ODI at the Uptonsteel County Ground   

Unfortunately, though, the traditional British weather delayed proceedings and the girls missed England’s stunning 161 run victory. Both Charlie and Alice played starring roles and helped England secure a 2-0 series win.  

However, despite this disappointment, our students were suitably inspired by their cricketing visitors and, thanks to the Trust’s exclusive partnership with LCCC, more of our students can look forward to similar opportunities in the near future. Watch this space!
