Students shine in CyberFirst competition
We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Year 8 team who secured second place in the East Midlands region of the CyberFirst Girls Competition 2025/26.The national competition, open to Year 8 girls across England and Wales, aims to inspire young people to explore careers in cyber security. Working in teams of up to four, our students took on a wide range of challenges covering cryptography, AI, networking and logic puzzles. Each activity was designed to stretch their technical skills and problem solving abilities and linked closely to the Computer Science curriculum.
Our pupils embraced the competition with enthusiasm, completing tasks both at home and during lunchtime sessions in school. Throughout the process they were supported by Mr Bola, whose encouragement and guidance ensured the girls felt confident tackling each challenge.
As this was the first year that Lionheart schools have taken part, finishing second in the region is an incredible accomplishment. Our team, ‘CodeSquad’, narrowly missed out on the top spot and we could not be prouder of how they represented Sir Jonathan North. All team members received certificates in recognition of their impressive performance.
Taking part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition has strengthened interest in Computer Science across our school and encouraged more girls to consider future pathways in technology and cyber security.
We are immensely proud of ‘CodeSquad’ for their commitment, teamwork and resilience throughout the competition. They have set a fantastic example for future groups and demonstrated what can be achieved through determination and curiosity.
