World Hijab Day

World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazam Khan in 2013, taking place on February 1st each year in 140 countries worldwide and this year it is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

The day is designed to spread awareness and educate people about the importance of the hijab to Muslim women and encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab for a day.

At Sir Jonathan North Girls’ College, our Diversity Ambassadors along with a member of the Student Executive delivered an assembly celebrating and observing World Hijab Day. Our students outlined the reasons people might choose to wear the hijab and raised awareness of the similarities between this head covering and others worn in religions such as Christianity and Judaism.
